Simien Mountains Trekking – 3 Days

Day 1: Gondar – Simien Mountains – Sankaber

Start your journey with a scenic drive from Gondar to Simien Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Along the way, visit Felasha Village, an Ethiopian Jewish community, and enjoy the scenic landscapes of the Ethiopian highlands.

Arrive in Debark (2800 m) after approximately 2 hours, where you will meet your trekking guide and scouts, obtain the entrance permit, and handle trekking logistics. Begin your trek into Simien National Park, heading to Sankaber campsite (3200 m).

The first day includes 2–3 hours of trekking to help you acclimatize to the altitude. The route runs along the escarpment with stunning views of the Simien Mountains and opportunities to spot Gelada baboons, endemic to Ethiopia.

Day 2: Sankaber – Gich Village

After breakfast, continue trekking to Gich Village (3600 m). Pass through valleys and rugged landscapes while enjoying the natural beauty of Mount Simien. Highlights include the Jinibar Waterfalls or the Nigus Aysmush viewpoint. Even in the dry season, the gorge is spectacular; in the rainy season, witness a magnificent waterfall over 500 meters high.

Day 3: Gich – Imet Gogo – Gondar

Start early with a trek from Gich to Imet Gogo (3926 m), the most spectacular viewpoint of the Simien Mountains, offering a 360-degree panoramic view. Keep an eye out for the Bearded Vulture (Lammergeyer), with wings spanning up to 3 meters, gliding gracefully across the highlands.

After enjoying the breathtaking scenery, return to the main road where your vehicle will drive you back to Gondar.
