Day 1: Drive from Gondar to Simien Mountains National Park

In the morning after breakfast, drive from Gondar to Simien Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. On the way, stop in Debark (2,800 m) to collect your guide, cook, scouts, and permits after paying the required park fees.

Continue driving into the park, located above 3,000 m sea level. Due to the high altitude, acclimatization is essential on the first day. Enjoy a short 2–3 hour acclimatization trek to Sankaber Campsite (3,200 m), with stunning views of valleys and mountain ranges and possible sightings of endemic gelada baboons.

Day 2: Trek Sankaber – Geech

After 2–3 hours, reach the seasonal Jinbar Waterfall (Nigus Aysmush viewpoint). Even in the dry season, it forms a dramatic 500-meter-deep gorge. The rare bearded vulture (lammergeier) is often seen soaring above the cliffs.

Enjoy a picnic lunch by the river before continuing through spectacular views of the Simien mountain range. Ascend gradually along an undulating trail for 2–3 hours to reach Geech village, where you will camp overnight.

Day 3: Trek Geech – Chennek

Continue trekking toward Chennek while enjoying dramatic ridge and canyon landscapes. Stop at Innateye (4,070 m) before descending to Chennek (3,600 m), one of the best wildlife viewing areas in the Simien Mountains.

Chennek is a prime location to spot the endemic Walia ibex and the rare Ethiopian wolf.

Day 4: Trek Chennek – Buahit Ras (4,430 m) – Return to Gondar

Early in the morning, begin the trek from Chennek toward Buahit Ras, with a steep ascent of around 600 m. From Buahit Ras (approx. 4,200–4,430 m), enjoy a breathtaking view of Ras Dashen, the highest mountain in Ethiopia.

After enjoying the views, trek back down to Chennek, where your vehicle will be waiting. Drive back to Gondar through the scenic landscapes of the Simien Mountains National Park.
