Day 1: Arbaminch Arrival – Dorze Village

Fly from Addis Ababa to Arbaminch in the morning. Then drive to Dorze Village. The Dorze people are renowned for their weaving skills, music, dance, and beautiful elephant-shaped houses. They live in one of the most densely populated areas of the country, but they have maintained a lifestyle that coexists with the environment by practicing mixed farming, handicrafts, and weaving. After enjoying time with the Dorze people, drive back to Arbaminch.

Day 2: Arbaminch – Turmi

Drive to Turmi via Konso Village. Konso is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its traditional landscape terracing system, wonderful walled villages, old community squares, stone monuments, generation poles, and carved statues. Konso has an immensely rich historical heritage and a traditional village atmosphere. Continue driving, crossing the Weito River, home to the Tsemay and Bena tribes, before arriving in Turmi.

Day 3: Turmi – Omorate

After breakfast, drive to Omorate, home to the Dassanech tribe on the border with Kenya along the Omo River, north of Lake Turkana. Cross the Omo River and visit their mobile village. Afterwards, drive back to Turmi for lunch, then continue your trip. On the way, you may have the chance to attend a bull-jumping ceremony, a Hamer boy’s rite of passage. You may also visit a Hamer village or a tribal market in Turmi (on market days).

Day 4: Turmi – Karo

In the morning after breakfast, drive to Korcho, one of the villages of the Karo people. The Karo tribe calls themselves Karato, meaning “fish eaters.” They are most famous for their artistic body painting. After visiting the tribe, return to Turmi for lunch. Afterwards, visit a Hamer market, a bull-jumping ceremony, or a Hamer village.

Day 5: Turmi – Jinka

In the morning, drive to Jinka, where you will stay overnight. Jinka is home to the Ari people. Although the Ari tribe is more modern, they are the largest tribe in the Omo Valley and still live in traditional villages. On the way, if it is a market day, you may stop at Dimeka, Key Afer, or other small tribal markets. You may see the Bena, Hamer, and Tsemay tribes.

Day 6: Mursi Village – Fly to Addis Ababa – Bahir Dar

After an early breakfast, drive to Mursi Village, crossing Mago National Park. The Mursi tribe is well known for the large lip plates worn by Mursi women, which have become one of the most iconic images of the Omo Valley tribes. After spending time with the Mursi people, drive back to Jinka for lunch and transfer to the airport. Fly to Addis Ababa, then continue to Bahir Dar.

Day 7: Bahir Dar

In the morning, fly from Addis Ababa to Bahir Dar. Meet your driver at the airport and transfer to your hotel.

Take a boat ride on Lake Tana to the Zege Peninsula. Lake Tana is the source of the Blue Nile River and is known for its fresh air, birdlife, hippos, and numerous islands. Walk for about 30 minutes through forest and coffee plantations to reach the 14th-century Ura Kidane Mihret Monastery, famous for its mural paintings and sacred manuscripts.

If traveling during the rainy season, drive 30 km south of Bahir Dar to visit the Blue Nile Falls, also known as Tis Issat (“Smoky Water”). Return to Bahir Dar.

Day 8: Bahir Dar – Gondar

After breakfast, drive to Gondar (about 4 hours). In the afternoon, visit the Royal Enclosure, featuring castles built by Ethiopian emperors beginning in the 17th century. Then visit Debre Birhan Selassie Church, famous for its religious paintings and angel-covered ceiling. Continue to King Fasil’s Pool.

Day 9: Gondar – Lalibela

In the morning, fly to Lalibela. Meet your guide at the airport. After checking in, begin visiting the famous rock-hewn churches carved from a single piece of rock. Built in the 13th century by King Lalibela, these churches are considered sacred by Ethiopian Christians. The most famous is the Church of St. George, known for its iconic cross shape. Lalibela is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best travel destinations in Ethiopia.

Day 10: Lalibela – Axum

Fly to Axum, the ancient capital of Ethiopia. Visit the Kings’ Tombs and the famous stelae, which stand gracefully as symbols of the Axumite civilization.

Day 11: Axum – Gehralta

Drive from Axum to Gehralta. Although the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela are the most famous, the churches of northern Tigray are equally impressive. Visit the stunning Abune Yemata Guh church, accessed by climbing a steep cliff.

Day 12: Gehralta – Mekele – Addis Ababa

Enjoy the stunning views of the Gehralta Mountains in the morning before trekking to St. Maryam Korkor, a rock-hewn church dating back to the 6th century. Afterwards, drive to Mekele Airport and fly to Addis Ababa.

Day 13: Mekele – Danakil Depression – Erta Ale Volcano

Pick up from your hotel and join a group trip to the Danakil Depression. Drive from Mekele to Dodom, the starting point of your Danakil adventure. From Dodom, trek for about 3 hours to Erta Ale Volcano, home to one of the world’s only permanent lava lakes. Enjoy a spectacular night view of the volcano, with glowing lava and eruptions.

Day 14: Erta Ale – Hamedela

Wake up early and descend from Erta Ale back to Dodom. Then drive about 100 km to Hamedela. Along the way, you will see camel caravans and enjoy a beautiful sunset over Lake Assale.

Day 15: Hamedela – Dallol – Mekele – Addis Ababa

Morning tour to Ragad (Asebo) to see traditional salt mining. Then drive to Dallol to visit the unique landscapes formed by volcanic activity—colorful formations that resemble Mars or the Moon.

Drive to Mekele Airport and fly back to Addis Ababa.
