Day 1: Fly Addis Ababa to Jinka
Fly from Addis Ababa to Jinka. Upon arrival, meet our team and check in to your hotel. On this day, we will visit the villages of the Ari tribe. These villages are surrounded by lush countryside, providing a sharp contrast to other parts of the Omo Valley. Walk through the farmlands and visit craftsmen to see how the Ari live. If it is a market day, we will visit the local market. Overnight: Jinka
Day 2: Jinka – Mago National Park – Turmi
We drive through Mago National Park to meet the Mursi people, who are considered fearless warriors. The women are recognized for their iconic lip plates; the larger the plate, the more beautiful a Mursi woman is considered. Upon arrival, walk among the small huts, see how the Mursi cook, and take photos with tribal members. Afterward, drive to Turmi. The Hamer people live around their capital, Turmi, a small settlement that becomes very busy on market days. They make a living from herding and agriculture, following a largely traditional lifestyle. The Hamer are famous for their spectacular hairstyles and the “bull jumping” ceremony, an impressive cultural event and a vital rite of passage. Overnight: Turmi
Day 3: Turmi – Omorate – Turmi
In the morning, we drive to Omorate to visit the Dasenech tribe. These tribes settle around the Omo River, and we will cross the water in a traditional boat to reach their village. The Dasenech are highly breeding-oriented, where cattle and goats serve as signs of status and dowry. They are constantly adapting to their environment by growing sorghum, maize, and beans. In the afternoon, return to Turmi. If it is Monday, we will attend the vibrant tribal market. Overnight: Turmi
Day 4: Turmi – Karo – Turmi
In the morning, drive to Korcho, a village of the Karo tribe. The village is set on a cliff overlooking a scenic view of the Omo River. The Karo live in thatched-roof huts made of sticks. Their most striking feature is the practice of body painting using colorful clay soils. In the morning, take a walk through a Hamer village and perhaps join a family for traditional coffee. Later, visit the local market in Turmi where various tribes gather to buy and sell, then enjoy a drink at a local establishment. Overnight: Turmi (Lodge)
Day 5: Turmi – Konso – Arba Minch
After breakfast, drive to Arba Minch via Konso. We will meet the Konso people in their hilltop villages, fortified by several rounds of stone walls. The Konso are famous for their soil conservation and terracing. UNESCO has recorded the Konso cultural landscape as a World Heritage site. The walking trails in these villages are narrow for security reasons. Afterward, continue the drive to Arba Minch. Overnight: Arba Minch
Day 6: Arba Minch – Dorze – Fly Addis Ababa
In the morning, drive to the village of the Dorze people, who are considered the finest weavers in Ethiopia. We will see how they produce handmade cotton cloth using the time-honored “Shemane” tradition. Their high-quality traditional scarves and items are available for purchase. Walk through green farmlands to see the elephant-shaped houses, learn how they prepare food from the false banana tree, and enjoy their traditional music and dance. Later, transfer to the Arba Minch airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. Overnight: Addis Ababa
Day 7: Fly Addis Ababa to Lalibela
In the morning, fly to Lalibela. At the airport, meet your driver and guide. After checking in to your hotel, you will begin visiting the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela. There are 11 unique churches carved from a single rock. The most iconic is St. George, which was carved in the shape of a cross. Overnight: Lalibela
Day 8: Fly Lalibela to Addis Ababa – Departure
In the morning, take your flight back to Addis Ababa. Enjoy some final sightseeing or shopping before your international flight home.
