Day 1: Mekelle – Danakil Depression – Erta Ale Volcano
Early flight to Mekelle or pickup from your hotel. You will join a group for this organized Danakil Depression tour.
We drive from Mekelle to Dodom, the starting point to explore the Danakil Depression. From Dodom base camp, we trek for approximately 3 hours to Erta Ale Volcano. Erta Ale Volcano is the world’s only permanent lava lake. At night, enjoy an amazing view of volcanic activity, glowing lava, and eruptions.
Overnight camping on the mountain.
Day 2: Erta Ale – Hamad Ela
Wake up early at Erta Ale, then trek back to Dodom. Continue driving to Hamad Ela (approx. 100 km). Along the way, you will see traditional camel caravans crossing the desert.
Enjoy a beautiful sunset over Lake Assale, one of the highlights of this Ethiopia desert travel experience.

Day 3: Hamad Ela – Dallol – Mekelle
Morning drive to Ragad (Asebo) to visit traditional salt mining activities. Continue to Dallol, where you will explore one of the most unique and colorful landscapes in the world, formed by volcanic activity. This surreal area looks like a mix between Mars and the Moon.
After the tour, drive back to Mekelle Airport and fly to Addis Ababa.

Day 4: Mekelle – Gheralta Mountains
Drive from Mekelle to the Gheralta Mountains. While the Lalibela rock-hewn churches are world-famous, the rock-hewn churches of northern Tigray are equally stunning and less crowded.
Visit the spectacular Abune Yemata Guh rock-hewn church, reached by climbing an 8-meter cliff, offering one of the most unforgettable spiritual and adventure experiences in Ethiopia.
Day 5: Gheralta Mountains – Mekelle – Addis Ababa
Enjoy the stunning morning views of the Gheralta Mountains before trekking to St. Maryam Korkor, a rock-hewn church dating back to the 6th century.
After the visit, drive to Mekelle Airport and fly to Addis Ababa.
