Itinerary

Day 1: Arbaminch Arrival – Dorze Village

Fly from Addis Ababa to Arbaminch in the morning, then drive to Dorze Village. The Dorze people are renowned for their weaving skills, music, dance, and unique elephant-shaped houses. They live in one of the most densely populated areas of Ethiopia, yet maintain a sustainable lifestyle by practicing mixed farming, handicrafts, and weaving. Spend time interacting with the Dorze people, learning about their traditions, and exploring their cultural heritage.

Afterwards, drive back to Arbaminch for your overnight stay.

Day 2: Arbaminch – Turmi

Drive to Turmi via Konso Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its indigenous land terracing system, which has conserved the soil for hundreds of years. Enjoy the scenic landscapes and cultural encounters along the way.

Day 3: Turmi – Omorate

After breakfast, drive to Omorate, home of the Dassanech tribe, located on the Kenya border along the Omo River and north of Lake Turkana. Cross the Omo River to visit their mobile village, experiencing the tribe’s daily life. Return to Turmi for lunch, then continue to Jinka, with a chance to attend the Hamer bull-jumping ceremony, visit Hamer Village, or explore the local tribal market if it coincides with Market Day.

Day 4: Turmi – Karo

After breakfast, drive to Korcho Village, home of the Karo people, who call themselves Karato, meaning “fish eaters.” The Karo are most famous for their artistic body painting. After visiting the Karo tribe, return to Turmi for lunch. Later, you may visit Hamer Market, attend the bull-jumping ceremony, or explore Hamer Village.

Day 5: Turmi – Jinka

In the morning, drive to Jinka, home to the Ari people, the largest tribe in the Omo Valley. Though more modern, the Ari still live in traditional villages. On the way, if it is Market Day, stop at Dimka, Key Afer, or other small tribal markets, where you may encounter the Benna, Hamer, and Tsemay tribes.

Day 6: Mursi Village – Fly to Addis Ababa – Harar

After an early breakfast, drive to Mursi Village, crossing Mago National Park. The Mursi tribe is well-known for the large lip plates worn by women, a distinctive and iconic symbol of the Omo Valley tribes. After spending time with the Mursi people, drive back to Jinka for lunch and transfer to the airport for your flight to Addis Ababa.

Day 7: Fly Addis Ababa – Lalibela

In the morning, fly to Lalibela. Upon arrival, meet your driver or guide and check in to your hotel. Begin exploring the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, carved from a single volcanic rock in the 13th century by King Lalibela, who is revered as a saint by Ethiopian Christians. The complex of 11 churches was designed to represent Jerusalem and biblical stories. Some churches are monolithic, carved entirely from bedrock, with the Church of St. George being the most famous for its iconic cross-shaped structure. Lalibela is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the top cultural destinations in the world.

Day 8: Fly Back to Addis Ababa
