Day 1 – Fly Addis Ababa – Jinka

Fly from Addis Ababa to Jinka. Upon arrival, meet our team and transfer to your hotel for check-in.

Today we visit the villages of the Ari tribe, surrounded by lush green countryside that contrasts sharply with other parts of the Omo Valley. Walk through farmlands, visit households, and meet local craftsmen to see how the Ari people live.

If it is a market day, we will also visit the local market.

Day 2 – Jinka – Mursi – Turmi

We drive through Mago National Park to visit the Mursi tribe, known as fearless warriors of the Omo Valley.

The Mursi are famous for women wearing iconic lip plates—the larger the plate, the more beauty it symbolizes in their culture. Upon arrival, walk around the village and visit traditional huts of different families. Observe daily life, cooking traditions, and interact with tribal members.

After the visit, continue driving to Turmi via Jinka.

The Hamer tribe, based around Turmi, lives a largely traditional lifestyle based on herding and agriculture. They are also famous for their unique women’s hairstyles and the “Bull Jumping” ceremony, an important rite of passage into adulthood.

Day 3 – Turmi – Omorate – Turmi

In the morning, drive to Omorate town to visit the Dasanech tribe, who live along the banks of the Omo River.

To reach their village, we cross the river using a traditional wooden boat. The Dasanech people practice pastoralism, farming, and fishing, growing crops such as sorghum, maize, and beans.

Cattle and goats are central to their economy, providing milk, meat, and social status, and are also used as bride price (dowry). The tribe also has a history of conflicts related to cattle raids with neighboring groups.

In the afternoon, return to Turmi. If it is Monday, we will visit the local tribal market.

Day 4 – Turmi – Karo – Turmi

In the morning, drive to Korcho Village, home of the Karo tribe, located on a cliff overlooking the Omo River.

The Karo live in small huts made of sticks with thatched roofs. They are especially famous for their artistic body painting, using natural clay soils to create colorful designs. They are widely considered the best body painters in the Omo Valley.

Later, visit a Hamer village and enjoy traditional coffee in a family hut. You may also visit the local Turmi market, where different tribes gather to trade goods.

Day 5 – Turmi – Konso – Arbaminch

After breakfast, drive to Arbaminch via Konso.

We visit the Konso people, known for their fortified hilltop villages surrounded by stone walls. The Konso are famous for their terraced farming and advanced soil conservation techniques. Their villages are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The village pathways are narrow with limited entrances for security reasons.

Continue driving to Arbaminch.

Day 6 – Arbaminch – Dorze – Hawassa

In the morning, drive to Dorze Village, home to some of the finest weavers in Ethiopia. The Dorze produce high-quality handmade cotton cloth using traditional weaving techniques passed down through generations.

Their garments are used for weddings, ceremonies, funerals, and special occasions. You may also purchase traditional scarves and handmade crafts.

Walk through green farmland and see the famous elephant-shaped Dorze houses. Learn how they prepare food from the false banana plant, and enjoy traditional music and dance.

Later, drive to Hawassa, a popular lakeside resort city in Ethiopia known for its beautiful lake and relaxing atmosphere.

Visit the fish market, where pelicans, marabou storks, and other birds gather. Optional boat ride on Lake Hawassa to see hippos.

Day 7 – Hawassa – Bale Mountains

In the morning, drive to the Bale Mountains National Park, one of Ethiopia’s most important highland ecosystems. The highest peak reaches 4,377 meters above sea level.

In the Sanetti Plateau, you may see the rare Ethiopian wolf, as well as giant mole rats and other endemic wildlife.

Day 8 – Dinsho – Addis Ababa

Early morning visit to Dinsho Forest, rich in wildlife and vegetation such as Juniper and Hagenia abyssinica.

Spot wildlife including the Mountain Nyala, Menelik’s Bushbuck, antelopes, warthogs, and monkeys.

After the visit, drive back to Addis Ababa. End of tour or transfer to the airport for departure.
