Day 1: Mekele – Danakil Depression – Erta Ale Volcano

Early morning flight to Mekele or pick-up from your hotel in Addis Ababa. Meet your professional guide and travel by 4×4 into the Danakil Depression, one of the hottest and most remote regions on Earth. The journey takes you through ever-changing landscapes—from the highlands of Tigray to the arid plains of the Afar lowlands. Upon arrival at Dodom, begin a short trek (approximately 30 minutes) across volcanic terrain to reach Erta Ale Volcano, famous for its permanent lava lake. In the evening, enjoy a spectacular view of the glowing crater and active lava flows under the stars—one of the highlights of Ethiopia volcano tours.

Day 2: Erta Ale – Hamad Ela

Wake up early for a sunrise visit to Erta Ale Volcano, when lighting conditions are perfect for photography. Afterward, trek back to Dodom and continue by 4×4 to Hamad Ela (approximately 100 km), crossing the heart of the Danakil Depression. Along the way, observe traditional camel caravans transporting salt blocks. Arrive in the late afternoon and enjoy a beautiful sunset over Lake Assale, one of the lowest points in Africa.

Day 3: Hamad Ela – Dallol – Mekele

Early morning drive to Ragad (Asebo) to witness traditional salt mining, a practice that has continued for centuries. Explore this extraordinary area, often compared to Mars or the moon. After the visit, drive back to Mekele.
